OVERVIEW FOR THE 2011 BLUEGRASS 1000 The tour will begin on Monday morning at Bill Collins Ford on Bardstown Road in Louisville at eight thirty with a light breakfast and driver's meeting. From there we will travel to My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown. The next stop will be Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace National Historic Site at Hodgenville. After touring the site, we will take scenic back roads thru Harrodsburg to Lexington. We will be based out of Lexington Monday thru Thursday nights. On Tuesday we will head for the Eastern part of the state; to Morehead and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. From Morehead, we will travel thru part of the Daniel Boone National Forest and circle back to Winchester where we will have dinner at Halls on the River Restaurant which is well known and loved for it's great food. After dinner, we will go back to the hotel for a relaxing evening. Wednesday will be the Horse Country day. We will stay mostly in the general area of Lexington but still get our miles in. We plan to visit a working horse farm and The Kentucky Horse Park where the World Equestrian Games were held in 2010. If we have time, we would like to visit a retirement farm for thoroughbreds no longer able to race before we go back to the hotel. On Thursday, we will go to the Kentucky Speedway where we will drive laps on the tri-oval as we did on the last tour. We will have lunch at The Elk Creek Winery before driving thru more scenic roads and back to Lexington. Friday we will start back to Louisville by way of Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark and Heaven Hill distilleries. Our farewell banquet will be held at Bill Collins Ford. These arrangements are subject to change but we promise you will have five days and four nights of fun and meet great new friends. |
